Latin Music Surges as Fastest-Growing Genre in 2024, Fueled by Regional Mexican Boom
According to Luminate’s 2024 Midyear Music Report, Latin music has emerged as the fastest-growing genre in the United States. The genre led all U.S. core genres in On-Demand Audio (ODA) streaming growth, achieving a notable +0.51 share point increase in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. This growth translates to a 15.1% increase in ODA streaming volume, solidifying Latin music’s continued dominance in the streaming space.
The rise of Regional Mexican music has been a significant factor driving this growth. The subgenre has now become the largest Latin music category in the U.S., showing that traditional Latin music styles are finding a strong footing among global audiences.
The report highlights that four Latin artists each garnered more than 100 million U.S. ODA streams in the first half of 2024. Leading the pack is global sensation Bad Bunny, who remains the No. 1-streaming Latin music artist in the country. Following him are three Regional Mexican acts: Peso Pluma, Fuerza Regida, and Junior H. These artists have been instrumental in pushing the boundaries of Latin music and redefining its place within the mainstream U.S. market.
With this impressive growth, Latin music continues to prove its staying power and cultural relevance. The report suggests that Latin music’s ongoing ascent will be a key trend to monitor throughout the rest of 2024 as more listeners embrace the genre and consumer listening patterns continue to evolve.
